A shipment of black gold will
hit the high seas today. The first batch of coal produced
at Gujarat NRE's No l Colliery at Russell Vale is due to leave
the Illawarra for India. The Indian company bought the mine
a year ago and began producing coal in August.

Darling will launch the cargo today at a ceremony at the Port
Kembla Coal Terminal.
With Indian demand for coking
coal set to triple in the next five years, Gujarat has invested
$30 million in the region and plans to invest a further $75
million . The mine employs almost 100 people and the company
hopes to operate in the region for the next 30 years. Gujarat
NRE also owns Avondale Colliery.
