GUJARAT NRE Coke Limited
(GNCL), the leading manufacturer of low ash metallurgical
coke, has chalked out ambitious plants to set up three waste
heat power plants at Bhachau in Kutch district and jamnagar
district of Gujarat as well as Dharwad in karnataka.
Gujarat NRE Coke on Friday signed an agreement with Sailcon,
a division of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), wherein
Sailcon would provide consultancy services for the implementation
of power plants.
Arjun Kumar Jagatramaka, Vice-Chairman and managing Director,
Gujarat NRE Coke Limited, said that the total power generation
capacity of the proposed plants at Bhachau and Dharwad would
be 30MV and the investment for each plant would be around
Rs 50-Rs 55 crore. The power plants are expected to be commission
within two years.
“The company will set up another plant at Khambhalla
in Jamnagar district within six months time,” Jagatramka
said.These are waste heat power plants based on coke batteries.Unveiling
the company’s plants, Jagatramka said that apart from
power plants the company was also in the process of enhancing
coke production from 1 million tones to 1.3 million tones
by the year 2009, for which the company plans to pump in around
$14 million. The coking coal production would also be increased
to 1.5 metric tones per annum. The company is also in the
process of doubling coke-making capacity at Dharwad in Karnataka
and is setting up Coal Washery at Bhachau in Gujarat.
