Gujarat NRE Coke to set up 3 power plants

Gujarat NRE Coke Ltd on Friday announced setting up three power plant of 15 mw each with a total investment of Rs.150 core.

While two power project of 15 mw each will be set up in Gujarat at Bhachu and Jamnagor, one would be set up at Dharwad in Karnataka.
Arun Jagatramka, vice chairman and managing director, Gujarat NRE Coke, said that the company on Friday signed an agreement with Sailcon,a division of Steel Authority of India (SAIL) for providing constancy services for the implementation of the power plants at Bhachau and Dharwad.

The power plants are being designed by using the sensible heat of the flue gas generated from the company’s coke oven batteries and are expected to be commissioned within 24 months.

The power projects would help the company reduce the operating cost of its steel mills. It may be pointed out that in all the three locations, where power plants are being set up, the company has manufacturing of low ash metallurgical coke.

As part of its expansion the company is also doubling its coke making capacities with an investment of Rs 70 crore at Dharwad where it has manufacturing capacity of four lakh tones per annum .The capacity expansion would be completed by July 2007.

The company had acquired two coal mines in Australia has already started Production; the second one will soon start production.

For the financial year ended March at 2007. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 56.75 crore against Rs 54.45 crore in the previous fiscal total income of the company stood at Rs 513 crore against Rs 397 crore impervious years.
