Gujarat NRE Coke to set up 20 Wind Turbine Generators of 25 MW Capacity in Gujarat

As a socially responsible entity, Kolkata based Gujarat NRE Coke Limited (GNCL), the largest manufacturer of low ash metallurgical coke in India is taking further strides forward in keeping with its mission of being environment friendly. The Board of the Company has approved investment of Rs 122 crore for setting up 20 Wind Turbine Generators (WTG) of 1.25 MW each, aggregating to 25 MW in Kutch, Gujarat. The company already has two windfarms with total capacity of 2.5 MW in Gujarat.

The Green Energy from these generators is for GNCL�s captive requirement. The WTGs have a life of twenty years and a payback period of five years. Besides substantial savings in energy cost, GNCL is expected to benefit from the Carbon Credit through Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) under the Kyoto Protocol Agreement.
