GUJARAT NRE COKE TIES UP COKING COAL CONTRACTS FOR 2004-05

(Press Release, March 10, 2004)

Gujarat NRE Coke announced having tied up its entire requirement of coking coal requirement for its coke plant at Jamnagar and the new unit being set up near Kandla Port for the year 2004/05 with Australian and South African Coal Mining Companies.

Till Last year, the Company was sourcing its entire coking coal requirement exclusively from BHP Billiton, the worlds largest resource Company and for the current year BHP Billiton renewed their coal supply contract to NRE Coke. Looking at the ongoing supply shortages from Australia, Company has also gone for a long term deal with Kumba Resources at South Africa to provide for an additional source of coking coal and has also entered in few other contracts with other Australian coal companies for the balance requirement of 2004/05.

With coal supply contracts already in place and given the very good reputation of its main coal suppliers BHP Billiton in honoring all their contracts and supporting their customers even in most difficult circumstances, NRE Coke is fully confident of maintaining full production at both its coke plants and service its long term domestic customers.
